Job Mission

We are looking for a Mechanical engineer with a strong hardware and systems background to act in the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer within the EUV light source Droplet Generator design team. In this role you will be responsible a broad range of mechanical design, data analysis, and risk evaluation to drive execution of the EUV source roadmap. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a broad technical background, excellent communication skills, and ability to influence others. You will collaborate with other architects, design engineers, and manufacturing engineers in a multidiscipline project team to develop concepts, perform engineering analysis, support the build and test of prototypes, develop detailed CAD designs and engineering drawings, and partner with suppliers and product integration to test towards a successful product launch.

Role and responsibilities

  • Providing a broad mechanical engineering design background and performs mechanical engineering analysis (stress, vibrations, thermal)

  • Develops module and system design concepts to meet product requirements.

  • Assumes engineering responsibility for component and subassembly test development, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.

  • Performs tolerance analysis at system and subsystem level.

  • Assists in project planning including key deliverables, timeline, and budget.

  • Works with other Engineers analysts and CAD Designers for prototype and pilot detailed design.

  • Supports driving full documentation of design including, BOM, drawings, and procedures.

  • Responsible for the research and selection of new suppliers with potential for turn-key provision of key subsystems.

  • Responsible for providing technical expertise in the core technology area of the potential suppliers to reveal best design path and performance.

  • Interacts closely with development engineers, scientists, suppliers, and QA to resolve quality issues.

  • Works closely with manufacturing and production engineering teams to drive industrialization of product hardware

  • Advises Project Leads with technical expertise

  • Advises and mentors junior mechanical design engineers

  • Presents technical data to a broad audience

  • Possible travel domestic / international (10%)

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Requires minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience. Can consider a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience.

  • Mechanical design of complex systems using CAD software, Siemens Nx preferred

  • Mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics

  • Mechanical assembly tolerancing

  • Broad range of metal manufacturing processes (mill, lathe, welding, additive manufacturing, etc...)

  • Metal coating technologies (CVD, PVD, ALD, thermal spray, etc...)

  • Gas flow systems and/or process chambers

  • Vacuum systems

  • Statistical data analysis in a production environment, experience using SPC preferred

Other information

This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
