General Job Description

*Under the direction of the Dental Director, the Dental Hygienist offers and provides oral prophylaxis and instructions on oral health care and disease prevention to patients. As a Dental Hygienist for Family Health Centers of San Diego, you embrace a spirit of service to provide caring, affordable, high quality healthcare and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low income and medically underserved persons. Job Roles

*Completes all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards; in addition, documentation complies with patients' insurance requirements.

*Participates in developing and reviewing hygiene protocols, audit procedures, and quality assurance procedures.

*Performs other duties as assigned.

*Performs preventive dental procedures including dental prophylaxis, root planning and scaling, sealants, and oral health education.

*Understands scope of practice. Consults when appropriate and refers patients as necessary to dentist, dental specialists and/or medical providers.

*Uses resources efficiently; practices in a cost-effective manner.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

*2 years of clinical experience preferred.

*California Registered Hygienist or D.D.S. License.

*Graduate of accredited Dental Hygiene program.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

*Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.

*Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.

*Basic computer literacy ability to comply with department needs and expectations (i.e., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, following up on apt, etc).

*Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.

*Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.

*Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to perform, relevant dental practices, protocol, trends, and best practices.

*Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

*Good written and verbal communication skills.

*Knowledge of, and ability to adhere to, scope of practice.

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
